Let's Talk About the Studio
Nazeem started recording at age 14 and simultaniously mentor by an artist called " Perk". The first recordings were accomplished by plugging a microphone into a stereo with two tape decks and recording a vocal take from one tape to another. He would then swap the tape in order to record another track to make it seem as if there were multiple tracks in the song. A poor mans studio. He graduated to a 4 track recorder and this gave Nazeem more options in the creative process. He would later connect with Leo Wright of Outerverse Productions on his first official studio session and 45 minutes later the song " If it Aint't Me" was recorded. It debuted in 1998 on the Serv N Ya Heat compilation released by OutBac Records. Due to the business dealings of OutBac Records, " If It Ain't Me" remains the only recording with Leo Wright and Nazeem and still remains the standard never matched by any artist regardless of status in the Bay Area Rap World. For Reference: " If It Ain't Me" was recorded on ADATS into the Calkwalk DAW. Currently Nazeem has learned how to use Logic, Pro Tools, Reaper, Studio One. Recording himself presents unique challenges and the goal of printing Red Book standard recordings for audio engineers remains critical. As of recently Leo Wright and Nazeem have reconnected.
